About The Mouth Lab

The mouth is where
systemic health begins.

The Mouth Lab is a clinical oral microbiome company built on a simple conviction: what lives in your mouth drives what happens in the rest of your body. We exist to make that science accessible, actionable, and impossible to ignore.

How It Started

Built from a clinical question that didn't have a good answer.

Angelina Geon, RDH, BSDH, HIAOMT, and Jazmin Platero, BS, founded The Mouth Lab in 2024 after leading the implementation of salivary microbiome testing in the integrative dental practice where they were part of the clinical team.

As the landscape of care continues to shift toward more holistic, root-cause approaches, the standard antibiotic-heavy protocols that accompanied most test results began to feel incomplete. There had to be a better path, one that worked with the body rather than against it.

That question drove deep research into alternative treatment modalities, from targeted probiotics to dietary and lifestyle interventions, and the development of protocols tailored to each patient's microbial data. The clinical results were fast, measurable, and reproducible. Patients who had been stuck began moving. The data accumulated on its own, and The Mouth Lab was born from what it revealed.

A clinical hypothesis became peer-reviewed research.

What started as an in-office observation grew into a formal 12-week pilot case series with documented outcomes now under peer review.

The research is just getting started.

The Mouth Lab exists to keep asking harder questions, and to make sure the answers reach the clinicians and patients who need them most.

Our Philosophy

What we believe.

Biology first, always.

Every recommendation we make is grounded in the actual microbial data. No guessing, no generic protocols. What your biology shows determines what we do next.

The mouth doesn't work alone.

What happens in the mouth doesn't stay there. The links between the oral microbiome and systemic conditions like inflammation, cardiovascular risk, and metabolic dysfunction are real, well-documented, and too often missing from clinical practice.

Research has to live in the clinic.

Science that stays in journals doesn't help patients. We translate microbiome research into practical clinical tools, education, and protocols that practitioners can actually use.

The Research

12 weeks. Real patients. Measurable results.

Our 12-week pilot case series tracked clinical outcomes in patients using our spore-based probiotic protocol alongside salivary microbiome testing.

98%
Reduction in bleeding on probing among study participants
100%
Of participants reported improvement in GI comfort and digestion
5 of 6
Reported improvements in overall health and systemic symptoms

Where We're Headed

The science is just getting started.

The Mouth Lab's research is currently under peer review, and the team is preparing for a keynote presentation at MBKS 2026 in September. What began as an in-office hypothesis has become a growing body of clinical evidence.

The vision is simple: make oral microbiome science a standard part of how clinicians understand and treat systemic health. The research, the education, the consulting, and the direct patient services all point in the same direction.

The mouth is the beginning. The rest follows.
